In the social space, it pays to be in the know! With new networks constantly emerging, it’s important to be an early-adopter. By reaching customers first, you’ll score points for being innovative and also be seen as fun and smart brand. One of the most recent new networks to take the social space by storm is Snapchat. Snapchat won’t release it’s total user count, but they have shared that over 400 million snaps are sent each day! And in case you didn’t know, there’s more to this app than just selfies. Snapchat recently updated, and here are a few things you didn’t know you could do:
Draw in the color white
iPhone users might seem limited to the colors in the top right bar. But if you hold your finger down, and slide across the screen to the left, the color will fade to white! If you start this step from the color red, you can create pink, or other shades in between white and red.
Draw in the color black
And after that, if you still keep your finger in that spot, just swipe all the way down to the bottom of the screen, and the color will change to black! If you’d like to take this a step further, slide your finger to the right, and you’ll fade from black back to your original color, finding every shade in between.
Filters
Until December 20th, Snapchat had a few secret filters! If you typed “B&w…” the screen would change to black and white! Now with their new update, you need to turn filters on. Go to your Settings, and then click “Manage” under Additional Services. From here, you can turn on 6 new features, including filters. To use them, just swipe to the right on your picture (when you do NOT have the crayon tool open).
More room to type
This might be an easy one, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t realize this works! If you need more room to type a message, just hold your phone sideways. Look how much more room there is!
Follow up on a resume
That’s right. Here at Likeable, if you apply for a job here, you can follow up on your application by Snapchatting our hiring director, Brian! When it comes to standing apart from the crowd, a creative snap showcasing who you are and your interests, might be the finishing touch that your resume needs to get an interview! Mashable ran a story about @BTMurr’s Snapchat antics here.
Drive sales with deals and discounts
Snapchat is a creative and fun way to drive sales! By snapping a discount code to customers, you can encourage some incentive spending. And if you’re lucky, the one person will share your code with his friends and co-workers, encouraging others to buy as well. That’s what happened in our office when GrubHub snapped one of us!
Announce new products to a select group of influencers
This year, Taco Bell became the first major brand to introduce new products to their customers with Snapchat. They shared a spicy crunch surprise that delighted Taco Bell enthusiasts all over. We all could learn a lot from Taco Bell in this sense: “It’s all about treating [your fans] like personal friends and not consumers.”
