Facebook’s annual developer conference F8 begins today, and it’s already making headlines before it’s begun. An announcement leak came through via the official conference app.
What Was Leaked
The company shared 3 announcements early:
- Parse for IoT– It seems that there will be an expansion of Facebook’s app building platform Parse it to the “Internet of Things” – the creation of Internet-connected devices for the home.
- Messenger as a Platform– As noted by Business Insider, there is a rumor that Facebook is turning its Messenger app into a platform that developers can build upon. This leak may be the confirmation.
- Teleportation Station: This is likely related to the Facebook acquisition of Oculus – which develops software for the cloud-based gaming industry – last year. We’re all excited to see what this is!
I Heard About ‘On This Day’ – What Is It?
It’s a feature similar to Timehop. When you visit Facebook (web or mobile) you’ll soon (possibly already) see an option to view On This Day with a the feed of content you posted in years past with the option to share them. You can also sign up for daily notifications.
How Can I Watch the Keynotes:
If you’re not at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco you can stream the conference here today and tomorrow.
Do you think the leak was on purpose? Will you be streaming from your desk? We’ll be watching to see what other announcements are made today and tomorrow!
