A Designer’s Guide to Snapchat Geofilters

Alright, let’s talk Snapchat Geofilters!

These image overlays, only available on the multimedia messaging platform, have turned into a huge asset for advertising executives and PR professionals alike.

Native filters, like the black and white effect or the time/date/temperature, are unbranded and are accessible anywhere. But what about all those others that only appear when you’re in a certain location? Well, that’s exactly where brands can insert themselves into the Snapchat universe!

I won’t promise other designers that there is a ton of creative freedom, but compared to other social media platforms, Snapchat actually encourages you to be goofy and fun with your designs. Take advantage of filters for events (hello wedding season!), new branding launches, movie/book/product releases, franchises, etc.! The opportunities really are endless here.
